Recommended Cookbook of the Month: Baking with Kim Joy

By Kim Joy

I am more of a cook than a baker but when I fancy it, this is now one of my go to baking books. The temptation when you see a cake that has been beautifully decorated is to assume that it probably doesn’t taste as good as it looks - the recipes within the book most certainly defy this. The book is split into cake bases and decorations, allowing you to mix and match, as well as including chapters on biscuits and other sweet treats. If you are a nervous baker or don’t have much experience at all with baking then this is possibly not the book for you. If you are comfortable with a whisk then you will find endless hints and tips to help you elevate your baking within these pages!

Favourite recipe: Pistachio & Cardamom Cake with Mango Saffron Jam - pure yum - I love that this cake is sweet but not too sickly.

Best for beginners: Tangzhong Cat Buns - a nice easy introduction to Japanese Milk buns - cat ears optional.

I’m looking forward to trying: Space Turtle Cake - need I say more?!
