Recommended Cookbook of the Month: Mother India at Home

Updated: Jun 9, 2022

By Monir Mohammed & Martin Gray

I think this may actually be the oldest cookbook I have in my collection and it is still one of my favourites. If you have been lucky enough to visit Mother India in Edinburgh or Glasgow then you will know what quality of food you can expect from these recipes. This book is a rare exception, as I am not always a huge fan of cookbooks that come from restaurants (I’m looking at you Dishoom 👀) Favourite recipe: Butter Chicken OR Chilli Garlic Chicken - If you have taken part in one of my Delhi Dinner classes then the Butter Chicken recipe would be familiar to you as it has been adapted from this original. The Chilli Garlic Chicken is HEAVENLY garlicky and although it takes quite a bit of preparation, it is so worth it.

Best for beginners: Chicken with Spinach Leaf - this is an easy weeknight curry that is not overly complicated or spicy but still tastes fantastic.

I’m looking forward to trying: Cauliflower, Potato & Paneer Tart - this sounds like an excellent veggie alternative, and definitely something I will be making in the future.
